Optometry Awards Presented
BALTIMORE
Four
Maryland OD professionals were honored by their fellow colleagues
at the Maryland Optometric Association's (MOA) Award lunch held
at the exclusive Hyatt Regency Baltimore on November 12. The award
lunch was part of the 2006 Convention and Education Forum, where
over 250 Maryland OD's attended.
Dr.
James Colgain of Bethesda, Maryland was presented with MOA's OD
of the Year Award in recognition of his many contributions to
the association. Most notably was his educational "Steroids
Refresher" course that gave valuable updated information
to his fellow ODs. In picutre to the right, Dr. Colgain is being
presented with the award by MOA President Dr.
Lisa
McGinn.
MOA's
Young OD of the Year Award was presented to Dr. Nina Doyle of
Crofton, Maryland. She was recognized for all of her efforts in
promoting MOA and other Maryland Optometrists through her work
with health and low vision fairs. In picutre to the right, Dr.Doyle
is being presented with the award by MOA President Dr.
Lisa
McGinn.
The
Mel Waxman Award was presented to Dr. Howard Woolf in recognition
of his dedicated and loyal service to the optometric profession
and to the Maryland Optometric Association. Dr. Woolf of Pasadena,
Maryland was honored for his long-term service to the association
and for his role in promoting the optometric profession. In picutre
to the right, Dr. Woolf is being presented with the award by MOA
President Dr. Lisa
McGinn.
MOA's
lobbying firm of Rifkin, Livingston, Levitan and Silver received
the Eugene McCrary Award, which is presented to a non-optometrist.
They were awarded for their significant contributions to the enhancement
of eye care for the citizens of Maryland. Most particularly they
were recognized for their hard work in advancing legislation that
supports the medical use of steroids. In picutre to the right,

Rozner and Pat Roddy representing the MOAs lobbying firm
are being presented the award by MOA
President Dr. Lisa
McGinn.
The
convention was a successful weekend that treated participants
to educational courses, networking opportunities with fellow professionals,
and prestigious guest speakers that discussed the latest updates
on various topics in the Optometric profession.
The
MOA is a non-profit professional association dedicated to providing
its members with the resources necessary to deliver the highest
standard of professional eye care to the citizens of Maryland.
It is the leader in providing continuing education for doctors
of optometry and the "Voice of Optometry" before the
Maryland General Assembly and the Board of Optometric Examiners.
